Kitchens

My Kitchens are site and Client specific, varying in style and function according to the demands of both. Following are some of the Kitchens I’ve done over the years.

Piedmont Kitchen

Replaces a once stylish 70’s kitchen that was worn out and lacked storage space. A underused closet/mudroom to the left of the stove was removed and replaced with counter and cabinets; a new pantry was built (behind the green doors) much like a cabinet with MDF walls to maximize space, shelves bracing the structure; and the opening to the dining room was widened using glass pocket doors. Cabinets are plain-sliced Walnut.

Beaumont Street Kitchen

One of my favorite kitchens— a budget kitchen in a small space in which we did a few simple (affordable) things to give it some flair. This kitchen is over 20 years old and the owner is still in love with it.

Strategy: Use basic square cabinet boxes, angle them to fit a standard 32” deep refrigerator (didn’t want to spend 8 times as much on a SubZero!), fill the angled gap with a custom pullout, saw a rounded/spiral shape counter and set it on top of the square cabinets; back the cabinets with a slightly curved cabinet for cups and glasses; have a simple bracket fabricated for open shelves.

My studio participated in this: we did the countertop, curved cabinet overhead shelves and the table.

Piedmont Kitchen

This highly detailed kitchen is the remodeled servants quarters of a 1930’s William Wurster house. The original detail of the rounded wall corners, baseboard and wainscotting reiterate that of the original house. The client requested the coffering of the ceiling, picking up some suggestion from the original house, but also helping to breakup the compressive feeling of the rather low ceiling. The floor of three woods is an excellent piece of craftsmanship that limns the cabinets and walls.

Alamo Square Kitchen

A kitchen in a impeccably restored 1871 Victorian house. By removing some inconvenient closets and relocating the basement stairs, the original kitchen was doubled in size.

The new kitchen has bolection molded frame and panel cabinets, a tin ceiling and cornice moldings, granite countertops, period ceramic tile, period details, and 11 paint colors.
